Pair of Oak Barley Twist Chairs

This very fine pair of oak barley twist chairs with cane back inserts have been fully re-glued, repolished and recovered in full grain leather

A stringer on one has been replaced with what looks like piece of rimu, while some evidence of the re-glue is visible

Delightful hutch dresser in "Art & Craft" style made in (pacific) Kauri with lovely grain on doors and fabulous golden hue from light oil finish

The hutch doors feature genuine, hand made lead-light inserts adding even more charm to a sought after and petite piece

Although not especially old, perhaps only 20-30 years, it is nicely made, in very fine condition and can only become better with polish & age

Will be a much loved antique in the future

Edwardian Ladies Chair c.1910

Rather sweet and delicate Edwardian chair, fully restored, re-glued, re-webbed and seat re-covered in full grain leather. I believe it was actually made in New Zealand as it has a slightly rustic finish and construction in mixed woods (beech maybe) and originally had a very dark and thick shellac coating to conceal differences in the wood

Generally, these chairs didn’t survive well due to their flimsy construction and propensity for borer, which has now been treated. It has taken me 30 years to get around to restoring this one, while another similar one I had simply disintergrated

Nevertheless, it is pretty to look at and is probably best used in a bedroom as someting to put clothes on rather than everyday seating in the hallway of lounge. It certainly isn’t a suitable seat for a large person

Measures 900 x 1,450 compact, 2,300 when extended so will easily seat 6-10 people depending on how you set it

The set of 6 mahogany Z chairs belong to the table. It it is possible I will consider selling them seperately, see seperate listing, although it would perhaps be a shame to split them up

I believe these chairs, and matching table listed separately, were made by a NZ furniture maker, however I’ve never been able to track down the maker

I purchased them, in a very sad state, from Burlington Bertie’s in 2000

European Pine Kitchen Dresser c.1900

This beautiful kitchen dresser crafted in pine has been confirmed by the English dealer (Odeon Design antique shop in Leek, Staffordshire) as coming from Germany or Eastern Europe. It arrived in NZ sometime in 2012 via two local dealers.

Withsimple lines and elegant proportions it has two shelves and drawers in the upper part, which detaches, and another drawer and a couple of shelves in the bottom section. The doors feature an unusual, effective and durable pin hinge mechanism.

What makes this dresser so sweet and rare is its petite size; it measures only 750mm wide, 360mm deep and 1800 high.

It is very difficult to find such a fine small dresser like this in NZ while it is a usable, everyday piece that is just rightfor a small kitchen with limited space.

French Country Cabinet c.1860

Gorgeous french wooden cabinet painted pale blue and cream with chicken netting front. Made from rustic oak planks, in very fine condition and all original other than hinges that must have been replaced many years ago and a replica lock & key (escutcheons are original).

Sourced in Normandy, France by a well known NZ dealer and although there is a minor repair it does not in any way detract from the desirability and authenticity of this piece. It looks like it might have survived an allie d bombing raid in northern France.
